Gaming, Personal

Magical ASCII Mine-diving Adventure — Illustrated online roleplaying game with a rotating group of gamers. Story, systems, and online archive, including ASCII art for the updates using REXPaint. Ran for one and a half years. (2017-2018.)

Space Trader RPG — Rulebook for a mixed-format roleplaying game set in a science fiction universe. Exercise in developing a complete ruleset, including ship generation, cargo trading, space combat, and so on. (2012.)

Diablo II Act IV and a Half — Exercise in videogame writing and level design. Hypothetical material for another Act in Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo II. Character dialog, quests, monsters, and locations. (2010.)

Urban Fantasy RPG — Ongoing pencil-and-paper roleplaying game set in an urban fantasy universe “alternate” to our own. Material from the first three gaming sessions. The game uses no published rulebook and instead runs through storytelling. (2009.)

Short Stories

Into Light — Experimental fantasy short story. My goal was to write a story with mysterious elements that would only be fully understood upon reading it a second time. (2005.)

Sylvie’s Tale — Simple fantasy short story. It made a little kid smile, so I’m happy with it. (2004.)

Alpha — Scripts for the first 100 pages of a science fiction parody webcomic. It mostly served as a character design exercise, and my personal notes have all the remaining characters fleshed out for use in future projects. (2002.)

Upside Down to a Nuthatch — Introductory pages to my last fantasy and comedy work with the Lesser Known Gods. Most characters are the creation of my collaborators, but this piece shows my setup of a greater plotline. Be warned that it contains inside references and jokes that only those old collaborators would understand. (2000.)
